A Guide to Creatively Handling a Child's Dental Health

My family's dental health is important to me. Unfortunately for me, it is not as important to my little ones. Getting my kids to brush and floss on a daily basis is almost like taking on an obstacle course. I talked to my family's dentist about different methods I could try to encourage them to brush and floss on a regular basis. Some of the tricks worked, some did not. After some experimentation and talking to other parents, I was able to come up with a lot of great tips for helping kids care for their teeth. I started this blog to help other parents get creative when it comes to their kids and dental care.

Helpful Information If You May Be Getting Dental Implants

Bella Snyder

If you're deciding if you should get dental implants, then this article can educate you on the process of getting dental implants and the benefits of having them. This may make your decision easier because you'll likely be more aware of the many advantages they'll continue to offer you over the years. Plus, you may feel better once you know what to expect during the procedure. Here is more on dental implants:

What happens during the dental implant procedure?

You will have an initial evaluation

There are different types of dental implants and different considerations regarding the approach taken with your implants. For example, the condition of your jawbone can determine whether you can get dental implants right away, or whether you will need a bone graft first. Some things that are done during this evaluation include an oral exam, X-rays, taking impressions of your teeth and gums, color matching your teeth, and discussing the dental implants with you.

You may have some teeth extracted

If you are getting dental implants where you already have no teeth, then you won't need a tooth extraction. However, if the dental implants are going to be replacing problematic teeth, then those teeth will be extracted in preparation for the implants. The teeth can be extracted during the same visit as when you are getting the implants.

You will receive anesthesia

The dentist will discuss the different options with you. In most cases, a local anesthetic is used to numb the area while the patient remains awake during the procedure. There is also a light sedation option where the patient will remain slightly conscious but be very drowsy. Another option is to be given general anesthesia, which causes the patient to remain asleep during the procedure.

The dental implants will be inserted

Once you have received the anesthesia and your affected teeth have been extracted, the dental implants will be inserted. The exact procedure followed will depend on the type of dental implants you are getting. However, you won't feel anything and the results will be permanent.

What is it like to have dental implants?

Once you have your dental implants, it will look and feel like you still have your natural teeth. The color matching that was done during the initial evaluation will result in implants that look like the teeth they are next to, so they won't be noticeable. The implants are strong, permanent, and can be cared for just as you care for your other teeth. When you want the closest thing to real teeth, dental implants are the way to go.
