A Guide to Creatively Handling a Child's Dental Health

My family's dental health is important to me. Unfortunately for me, it is not as important to my little ones. Getting my kids to brush and floss on a daily basis is almost like taking on an obstacle course. I talked to my family's dentist about different methods I could try to encourage them to brush and floss on a regular basis. Some of the tricks worked, some did not. After some experimentation and talking to other parents, I was able to come up with a lot of great tips for helping kids care for their teeth. I started this blog to help other parents get creative when it comes to their kids and dental care.

How To Find A Family Dentist In A New Town

Bella Snyder

Moving to a new location is exciting, but it can be overwhelming to be thrown out of your element. At your last home, you had built a network of reliable plumbers, doctors, dentists, HVAC contractors, and other professionals who fulfilled your family's needs. When you relocate your family to another location, you will have to start all over again and find a reliable family dentist.

The choice of a family dentist is quite critical because they have to suit your family's lifestyle and unique needs. The tips below will help your search.

Search the ADA Database

The U.S. is well served by over 200,000 dentists scattered across the country, and you can be confident that you will find reliable dentistry practices near you. The American Dental Association (ADA) sets the code of ethics for the dentistry discipline in the U.S.

The ADA Find a Dentist tool is an excellent place to start your search. You will need to fill in your location, distance, and specialty to see the dentists near you. There are other dental societies with similar databases, including the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD).

Ask Around

Asking people you trust has always been the traditional way of getting recommendations. Start with your co-workers, neighbors, and any new friends you make in the new town. Be careful about people who give negative experiences as it typically means that they are not consulting the right practitioner. It is better to trust people who rate their family dentist highly, as you are sure that the dentist is concerned about their patients' comfort.

Consult Patient Reviews

When choosing between potential family dentists, you can check for patient reviews to help you decide. Reviews are a useful resource because you will gain insight into the office environment. You can use many platforms to check dentist reviews, including Facebook, and Yelp. If you see mostly positive experiences, you can be confident that the family dentist will give you the level of care you require.

Get a Referral from a Physician

If you have already settled on a general physician, you can ask them to refer a family dentist. Doctors and pharmacists are reliable referral resources because they get reports from the dentists around them. The physician will also use the knowledge of your family's medical needs to choose an excellent family dentist for you. You can also ask your previous dentist if they know any right family dentists in your new area.
