A Guide to Creatively Handling a Child's Dental Health

My family's dental health is important to me. Unfortunately for me, it is not as important to my little ones. Getting my kids to brush and floss on a daily basis is almost like taking on an obstacle course. I talked to my family's dentist about different methods I could try to encourage them to brush and floss on a regular basis. Some of the tricks worked, some did not. After some experimentation and talking to other parents, I was able to come up with a lot of great tips for helping kids care for their teeth. I started this blog to help other parents get creative when it comes to their kids and dental care.

Which Orthodontic Issues Qualify For Invisalign?

Bella Snyder

Normal braces are quite effective, but there've always had one glaring issue; they are highly visible. It's close to impossible to open your mouth without someone seeing the regular wire braces. This makes many people self-conscious when doing anything that would require them to open their mouths.

However, clear aligners, such as Invisalign have changed the landscape of dental health. These aligners are alternatives to standard braces, and they have the main advantage of being much less conspicuous when worn.

Which Issues Can Be Corrected Using Invisalign?

Invisalign aligners are used to straighten crooked teeth just like conventional braces. However, they are not as effective with every orthodontic issue. These braces have been found to be especially effective for fixing moderate crowding of the front teeth. Orthodontists can also recommend these in case a patient suffers a relapse after using regular, fixed braces.

An orthodontist will have the final word on whether or not you should use these aligners. They can make a proper decision based on what they observe.

What are the Limiting Factors?

Unfortunately, there are many problems that cannot be fixed using Invisalign. However, apart from the type of orthodontic problem, there are other factors that may also affect your eligibility to use these types of aligners. These include:

  1. Age: The use of these braces may be counterproductive for someone who is still young. Below a certain age, the teeth are still growing, and this growth can be hindered by the use of these braces. Therefore, these braces are usually recommended for people who are older than 16.

  2. The crookedness of the teeth: Invisalign braces are quite good for many cosmetic and alignment issues. From overbites and underbites to gapped teeth, the braces can be used to correct all these issues. However, those with serious misalignment will have to go for regular braces.

  3. Level of Commitment: For the best results, these braces have to be worn for at least 22 hours each day. This level of commitment can be hard for some people, e.g., teenagers. These braces won't be ideal for you if you're unlikely to wear them as required.

Talk to an Expert

The best way to figure out if this orthodontics will be good for you is to talk to an expert about it. If your alignment issue qualifies to be fixed using Invisalign braces, you can enjoy the benefits of straight teeth without having to worry about wires ruining your smile.
